The Lonely Entrepreneur: Why We Crave Business Partnership (and What to Do About It)
Feb 26, 2025
I always knew entrepreneurship could be lonely. But I don’t think I fully understood the weight of that loneliness until I found myself deep in decision fatigue, second-guessing every major move, and longing for someone equally invested to navigate it all with me.
Not an assistant. Not an accountability partner. Not a mentor.
A business partner.
Someone to sit across from me, fired up with ideas, strategizing, troubleshooting, and making the weight of every big decision feel lighter. Someone whose energy would fuel mine and vice versa. Someone who made this journey less steep—because, let’s be real, some days it feels like we’re scaling a damn mountain.
The Myth of the Solo Entrepreneur
Entrepreneurship is often painted as this noble, self-sufficient endeavor: Be your own boss! Build your empire! You don’t need anyone else! But the reality?
Building something from scratch—alone—is exhausting.
Decision fatigue is real. The mental gymnastics of switching from CEO to marketer to customer service to admin is real. The overwhelming responsibility of driving every launch, every strategy, every pivot? Real.
And I get it—people say “just hire a VA,” or “join a mastermind,” or “get an accountability partner.” And I have! I have an incredible VA, and she takes so much off my plate. I have weekly accountability meetings that help keep me on track. I have strategic calls that help me think things through.
But none of these things fully replace what I’m really craving: someone who is just as deep in the trenches with me, someone who shares the emotional and strategic weight of running a business. Someone who makes the incline feel less steep.
The Power of a Partner: The Science of Shared Load
There’s a psychological study that found when people stand at the base of a steep hill, they perceive the incline as less steep when they’re with a friend. And the closer and more trusted that friend is, the easier the hill seems.
Let that sink in.
Difficult things feel less difficult when we do them with someone.
Entrepreneurship is no different. But because traditional business partnerships are messy, complicated, and (often) legal nightmares, we default to doing it alone.
And that’s how we end up feeling like the tiger analogy—have you heard this one? Being an entrepreneur is like walking into a room riding a tiger. Everyone looks at you and says, “Wow! That’s incredible!” but you’re just up there trying not to get eaten.
Every entrepreneur I know feels this at some point. You’re holding everything together, you’re smiling for the audience, but deep down, you’re constantly wondering if today is the day the tiger finally throws you off.
Why We Don’t Talk About This Enough
Entrepreneurs often brush over this loneliness.
We treat it like a given:
- Everyone experiences it.
- It’s just part of entrepreneurship.
- Toughen up and get the job done.
- Don’t dwell on it—there’s nothing to be done.
But that’s bullshit. We just accept a broken model because we’ve never been given a real alternative.
I’ve been sitting with that question a lot. And I keep coming back to this:
What If Entrepreneurship Wasn’t Meant to Be a Solo Sport?
The way things are now, you either:
- Go it alone and shoulder every decision, or
- Form a traditional business partnership, which is complex and comes with huge risks.
But what if there was a middle ground?
What if we stopped forcing entrepreneurs to either sink or find a co-founder and instead built something different—something designed for modern business owners who crave deep collaboration without the logistical and legal nightmares?
Redefining “Partnership” for the Modern Entrepreneur
I don’t think the answer is hiring more VAs or joining more masterminds. Those things help, but they don’t fill the gap we’re talking about.
What we need is a true collaborative model—one that blends the best parts of business partnership without the legal and logistical nightmares. Something that offers: ✔ Decision fatigue relief – So we’re not making every call alone.
✔ Real accountability – Not just check-ins, but someone who calls you out when you need it.
✔ Skill & task sharing – Leveraging strengths so we’re not stuck doing everything.
✔ Emotional & strategic support – Because entrepreneurship isn’t just business—it’s life.
So…What Would That Look Like?
I don’t have all the answers yet, but here’s what I do know:
- Co-working communities don’t quite cut it.
- Masterminds and mentorships can be valuable, but often lack the long-term co-investment in success.
- Many entrepreneurs crave a partner-like relationship but don’t know how to find it (or fear the complications of legally binding partnerships).
So, what if we created something in between?
💡 A High-Caliber, Vetted Business “Co-Pilot” Network?
⚡ Small, hand-selected groups of high-level entrepreneurs
⚡ No “hierarchy” like a coaching program—true peer-to-peer collaboration
⚡ Combines weekly accountability + strategy meetings + skill-sharing
⚡ Members are deeply invested in each other’s success, without the legal entanglements of a business partnership
⚡ “Business Co-Pilots” – A structured way to pair up and work in tandem on major projects, launches, or decision-making cycles
⚡ Serious commitment + high-level quality control – NOT just another mastermind that fizzles out
